Remarks
The German amphibious vehicle EWK Bison with a 4x4 wheel arrangement was first shown in 1982 at the aviation exhibition in Hanover. It is made with the placement of the air-cooled diesel engine behind the driver's cab above the wheels of the front axle. The large loading floor (over 14 m²) has folding sides, which, like the cabin doors, are located above the waterline of the car. The standard load capacity of the vehicle is 5000 kg, but in exceptional cases this can be increased to 7000 kg.
In order to ensure the desired parameters of buoyancy and stability in accordance with the restrictions of the road legislation on the total width of the vehicle (no more than 2.5 m) under the cargo platform, inflatable floats are located between the wheels of the axles on the sides, which are closed in the transport position when moving on land with vertical shields.
By inflating the floats, the width of the car increases from 2500 mm to 4460 mm.
The car's transmission consists of a ZF automatic transmission, a transfer case with a limited-slip differential, final drives and planetary wheel gearboxes. All wheels are connected to a centralized air pressure control system for more cross-country capability. The size of the tires is 20.5x25. The track width of the front wheels is 2.02 m, the rear wheels are 2.05 m, the wheelbase is 5.1 m, the ground clearance is 0.5 m, the height in the cab is 2.96 m, the awning of the loading platform is 4.4 m. Turning radius on land is 24 m.
When driving on water, it is possible to pull all wheels closer to the body using Koni-Lift shock absorbers and hydraulic actuators to reduce water resistance and increase travel speed.
Movement on the water is provided by two full-turn propellers from Schottel, which are mounted at the rear of the car and which, in addition to pulling forces, create torque to keep the car afloat.
